The sixth annual Red Nose Day special on Thursday, May 21 will showcase a night of music, comedy and Hollywood’s biggest names. Kicking off the night at 8 p. Australians are once again urged to get involved with Red Nose Day to help stop little lives being cut short, and so Red Nose can continue to offer support to families going through the unimaginable grief of losing their child.
Over 3, children devastatingly still die each year during pregnancy, infancy and childhood — including stillbirths, SIDS and fatal sleep accidents. Therefore, ongoing support is critical. Funds raised on Red Nose Day will directly benefit the community – through funding vital research, safe sleeping and pregnancy education, and bereavement support. Alarmingly, one Australian baby is stillborn every four hours – a statistic so shocking that Red Nose is shining a global spotlight on stillbirth in , through funding projects to meet its goal to reduce stillbirth rates by 20 per cent over the next three years.
Fundraising efforts from Red Nose Day have enabled Red Nose to fund a ground-breaking international project – based on evidence-based research – to educate pregnant mothers on the importance of sleep position to prevent late-term stillbirth, with Red Nose confident it will pioneer a significant reduction in stillbirth rates. The project will lead to the launch of public health campaigns recommending pregnant mothers sleep on their sides to reduce the risk of late-term stillbirth, saving the lives of thousands of babies and the heartache of the families experiencing such a loss.
